Performing a Basic Cost Rollup

Once all of your base products have costs associated to them, you can use them to calculate your rolled up BOM costs.

NOTE: This is part of the Configuring Costing and Cost Sheets in Dynamics AX 2012 blueprint series where we show how to configure costing within Dynamics AX, and also how to set up a costing sheet to better view and analyze the costs. How to do it…

To perform a basic cost roll up, follow these steps:

  1. Open up the Released products form from within the Common group of the Product information management area page.
  2. There are a couple of different ways to perform a cost roll up. You can access it through the BOM Designer view and also from the Item Prices forms. To do it the first way, select the product that you want to perform the cost roll up on, and then click on the Designer menu item in the Formula or BOM groups of the Engineer ribbon bar.
  3. When the Designer shows up, click on the Calculation button on the left hand side.
  4. This will open up the BOM or formula calculation form. Select the Costing version that you want to use as the basis for your cost roll up, and then click the OK button.

How it Works…

After the cost roll up has been performed, you will see a list of all of the pending prices that have been calculated.

Note: you can get to the same screens by selecting the Item prices menu item from the Set up group of the Manage costs ribbon bar. To perform a calculation, just click on the Calculation button in the menu bar.
