Creating an Update Template within Excel

The easiest way by far to update Dynamics AX in mass is to use the Dynamics AX Add-In for Excel. Creating a template that you can use for the updates is a really simple process and just takes a minute or so.

NOTE: This is part of the Creating an Excel template for Updating Product Costs and Prices blog series where we show how to create a template within Excel to update product costs and prices. If you want to see all of the other posts in this series, click here.

How to do it…

To create your initial price update template within Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Open up a new Excel workbook, and from the Dynamics AX ribbon bar, click on the Add Data button within the Design group and select the Add Tables menu item.
  2. Filter the tables to find the InventTableModule table, add it to the selected tables, and then click on the OK button.
  3. This will create a new worksheet for you within Excel linked to the table within Dynamics AX.

Add the Price and Unit fields to the spreadsheet by dragging them from the field explorer and dropping them into the table template that is in the worksheet.
  4. Click on the Fields button within the Design group of the Dynamics AX ribbon bar to return to edit mode, and then click on the Refresh button within the Data group of the Dynamics AX ribbon bar to retrieve all of the data.

How it Works…

Now you will be able to see all of the prices and costs of the products listed out individually.
